How Does the Inflation Reduction Act Work in PA?
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is a game-changing legislation aimed at putting a lid on inflation by reducing the deficit and tackling some of America's most pressing climate control and health care issues. As of August 2022, this $740 billion bill covers an array of topics, including mitigating the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs and promoting energy efficiencies and electric vehicles. Notably, the IRA contains clean energy tax credits and an array of relevant tax incentives that homeowners can take advantage of to finance their eco-friendly upgrades.
What Are the Benefits of the 25C Tax Credit in PA?
Homeowners, listen up! The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit (25C) is one of the most crucial aspects of the IRA. This tax credit is now even better and provides homeowners with a great opportunity to save money on energy-efficient upgrades.
Tax credits, like the 25C Tax Credit, help homeowners save on expenses such as equipment, installation, and labor costs. Although not instant, these credits can be claimed when you file your taxes for the year in which the work was done.
Starting this year, the 25C Tax Credit can help homeowners secure a tax credit worth up to 30 percent of the installation costs for eligible expenditures. Examples of eligible expenditures include the following:
- Heat Pump and Heat Pump Water Heater Upgrades – This $2,000 credit is available annually for eligible high-efficiency upgrades homeowners make to their home’s heat pump or heat pump water heater.
- Other Upgrades – Homeowners can take advantage of this annual $1,200 credit when they make high-efficiency upgrades to eligible items around their homes. Each item is worth a $600 credit. Eligible items include air conditioners, electrical panels, furnaces, boilers, and water heaters.
Homeowners can also secure a $150 credit for having an energy audit performed on their home.
